Joseluis Rodrigues Joins Team Domin8 Athlete Panel

Joseluis Rodriguez
Born in Houston, Tx
March 10, 1989
Graduated from Deer Park High School
Attending Benedictine University
Major: Pre-Physical Therapy
Minor: Spanish

I have been playing soccer my whole life. At the age of 16 I was played for the Academy team of Cruz Azul. I was a 3 year letter man at Deer Park high School. Currently I have been playing at Benedictine for 3 years. I also play for a club team called The Galaxy. I am hoping to move on next summer to Europe and play.

My "WHY USANA?"
Jose Rivera- 3x World Champion
I chose USANA because I know that these are products that will not have me worrying whether or not I will test positive with regards to the NCAA antidoping policy. Having had a chance to talk to Jose Rivera (3x welterwight champion of the world & USANA Associate) made me believe that these products will help me become a better athlete.

At first it sounded to good to be true, but my dream is to become a pro soccer player and I am willing to do all I can (within regulations) to put me at the top. I decided to try USANA. I have only been on the product(s) for a few months and quickly I was able to notice the difference in my game. I had more energy and I moved a lot quicker! The one thing that really amazed me about the product was the difference that I noticed with regards to my my asthma. Please understand that this is my personal testimony/experience with the product. In no way am I claiming that USANA cured my ailment.

My asthma is the thing that I felt that was holding me back from becoming an elite athlete, but after taking the USANA products I realized that I did not have to turn to my inhaler at all during my training. Not having to come off the field and taking my inhaler really made me a believer.

I joined Team Domin8 in July of 2010 & look forward to educating anyone who will listen about the importance of proper nutrition & overall optimized cellular health.

Brian Washington Domates Original Painting to USC Law School

Taking a Stand

USC Law 3L Brian Washington donates his original painting as a tribute to the law school's dedication to diversity and tolerance
Dean Matthew Spitzer and Brian WashingtonGraduating USC Law student and artist Brian Washington presented his original painting, “We Will Never Stand Silent” to the law school this spring.
The framed black-and-white painting depicts civil rights-era protestors engaged in non-violent protest, marching and carrying signs that bear phrases such as, “Equal rights for all.” It will be on display at Campbell Lounge on April 20 and 21 from 12 to 5 p.m. and in the Faculty Lounge on April 20 and 21 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Washington (pictured above with Dean Spitzer), is a self-taught artist who vividly depicts history as a reminder of the courageous individuals of the civil rights era. He said he was moved to create this piece in part by USC Law’s commitment to tolerance.
“As a student at the law school, I have been impressed by the administration’s commitment to diversity and its progressive stance on issues of discrimination. I feel that every member of the school has benefited from this environment,” Washington said. “This piece underscores the fact that discrimination and prejudice have no place in our society, and the fact that we will not stand silent in the face of intolerance and bigotry of any kind.”
We Will Never Stand SilentDonating the artwork to USC Law seemed a natural choice, Washington said, as the same ideals, morals and values embodied in the painting also are demonstrated in the law school community. Washington says he hopes his painting will inspire future students to continue that tradition.
“With this in mind, I see this donation to the law school as a two-tiered endeavor,” he said. “On one level, it is a tribute to the school’s stance on non-discrimination, and its commitment to diversity. On another level, by displaying the painting for the law school community to see, USC will be reminding its community to keep issues of equality at the forefront, and remain committed to diversity.”

Jabari Sandifers "Fuel On And Off The Court"

I WAS INTRODUCED TO USANA ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO AND WHAT A DIFFERENCE IT HAS MADE IN MY LIFE.

LIKE A LOT OF OTHER TEENAGE BASKETBALL PLAYERS, I HAVE A FULL PLATE RIGHT NOW.

I AM BALANCING MY COMMITMENTS TO MY SCHOOL WORK AND PLAYING AS MUCH BASKETBALL AS I CAN.

THE INITIAL DIFFERENCE I NOTICED WAS MY FOCUS IN SCHOOL.  I TRADED THE CEREAL, QUAKER GRANOLA BAR AND APPLESAUCE FOR A USANA CHOCOLATE PROTEIN SHAKE AND PROTEIN BAR TO START MY DAY.  INSTANTLY I NOTICED I HAD A TON MORE ENERGY AND MORE FOCUS.

I ALSO STARTED TO INCORPORATE THE VITAMINS, PROTEIN BARS AND SHAKES IN BETWEEN MY PRACTICES AND STRENTH TRAINING; AGAIN, THE SAME GREAT RESULTS.

AS AN ATHELETE I TRY TO MAKE GOOD CHOICES TO FUEL MY BODY, USANA PRODUCTS ARE A GOOD FIT FOR ME AND MY NUTRITIONAL GOALS.

Freshmen Basketball Player Starts Varsity Basketball Team

It was my goal to play varsity basketball as a freshman for as long as I can remember. Not only to play varsity, but to start. Such an ambitious goal took commitment and hard work. Weekly, individual training drills included: strength & conditioning, dynamic range of motion (DROM), resisted flexibility, speed & agility, and shooting.

A healthy body that could stand up to such a rigorous training schedule, and season practice & play, helped me realize my dream. Usana Body Rox and other Usana nutritional supplements keep my body strong as a three sport athlete. I’m rarely sidelined by seasonal illnesses such as colds, flu and allergies, although prior to taking Usana, four years ago, these illnesses were common occurrences.

I’m subject to Illinois high school association substance testing requirements. For this reason my parents trust Usana.

Usana follows pharmaceutical Good Manufacturing Practices to ensure the safety and quality of their supplements.

Usana supplements meet all IHSA drug testing standards, and offer an athlete guarantee. My entire family trusts their health to Usana.

Jillian Hernandez, The "Biggest WINNER"

Ever wonder what its like to be 100 pounds overweight?

The testimony below will provide you with a snapshot of what it feels like.

Jillian Hernandez has a remarkable story to tell. From March of '09 to March of 2010 she has lost OVER 100 pounds but her journey was not easy!

Read her testimony below:

A MESSAGE FROM JILLIAN-

"I used to wake up with a sadness that absorbed my soul. My life was nothing like I had imagined it was going to be when I was child. Every kid has delusions of grandeur, and mine were no different. And my life was the complete opposite of what I wanted it to be. I had to make a change......

For the last few years I found myself self-conciously withdrawing from social opportunities of which I now attributed to me being 100 lbs plus overweight. Where had I gone wrong? Why had I made so many poor decisions along the way? Why couldn't I just do the things that I really wanted myself to do???? I had to make a change......

And then it happened.......

I made a commitment to live a PROACTIVE versus REACTIVE lifestyle because my life actually flashed before my eyes. My cousin & uncle had been sharing information with me concering a RESET lifestyle change program but I had yet to pay it any mind.

I was very skeptical at first, however after visiting their official site, I decided to give it a try. Little did I know that it would be the best decision I ever made!

It works, but it's no miracle program...and if you don't believe me, please look at the pictures in this post for proof! Seeing is believing!

Everything begins with you making a personal commitment to make a change in your life and take charge of your daily routine. The RESET program is simply an excellent way to align with proper nutrition & eating habbits in order to achieve the end goal.

I definitely eat right now and wouldn't have gotten as far as I have without doing that, but without the RESET, I would still be stuck on the couch, feeling sorry for myself, closing in on an early end to my once promising life.

If you or ANYONE you know that needs help losing weight, the RESET is the best way to get started on changing your life. Excess weight is so prevalent in our society. The bigger problem is that consumers are being undereducated with regards to food labeling which continually leads to bad choices even for those trying to make a commitment to a healthy lifestyle.

I would have never known about this stuff were it not for my cousin Alexis and uncle Jerry. So, I am indebted to them, and I feel like it's my duty to share my story with everyone that will listen in order to pay them back for giving me my life back.

-Jillian

Whitney Lynn Kingsbury Ph.D To Join Team Domin8 Medical Panel

Whitney Kingsbury obtained her doctorate from The University of Illinois, where she completed her dissertation entitled "Associations among adolescent obesity, bullying and media exposure in relation to psychological adjustment and body-size stigmatization."

In this research endeavor, she examined "fatism", bullying, and media exposure in middle school students to explore the associations among internalizing weight-based stigmatizing beliefs from the media, bullying overweight peers, and the impact these experiences have on psychological outcomes in overweight youth. Moreover, in this study she investigated possible ways of reducing weight-based stigmatization.

Her interests in this area stemmed from  the unique opportunity she had as a behavioral therapist at an intensive summer weight loss adventure camp for adolescents in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  In this position, she applied a biopsychosocial approach to the treatment of obesity that attended to both the physiology and psychology of such a condition through individual and group counseling, behavioral management, and nutritional education.  She describes this experience as life-changing, to witness the growth and positive health changes these individuals made in their lives when armed with resources, knowledge, and support.

Whitney Kingsbury Cycling

As a clinician, she has worked in a college health center, hospitals, outpatient clinics, therapeutic day schools, and most recently, at a residential treatment program serving adolescents with significant trauma and abuse histories. She has also served as an administrator at a graduate school, managing their partnerships with community agencies, overseeing community engaged scholarship activities of students, and building programs through community outreach.

Across this broad range of experiences, a pervasive underlying theme has been Whitney's passion in working with youth, and in particular, "at-risk" underserved populations, with a consistent goal to empower individuals to make changes in their lives that promote better health and wellness. Whitney has always adopted a holistic, health psychology perspective in conducting community-based work.

Whitney is therefore extremely excited to join the Team Domin8 Leadership Panel because she will have the opportunity to continue addressing the needs of our "at risk" youth community by empowering them and giving them the resources they need to lead a healthier lifestyle. A partnership with USANA Health Scienes will provide greatly needed nutritional and general health education to be delivered to our communities, and especially to our youth.

Below is an exerpt from Whitney's dissertation.
This excerpt sets the stage for the challenge facing the youth of America with regards to health and nutrtion. It provides clarity to the opportunity that exists for USANA Associates to  have a positive impact on this world for generations to come.

The incidence of childhood obesity has tripled in the past three decades; current estimates are that approximately 11% of children between the ages of 6 and 17 years old are obese [Body Mass Index (BMI) > 95th percentile of reference population] and an additional 14% are overweight (BMI between the 85th and 95th percentiles; Troiano & Flegal, 1998).  Also alarming, the prevalence of those overweight only continues to increase in similar magnitudes among all sex and age groups (Flegal & Troiano, 2000).  Given the growing literature documenting the stigmatization of obesity in numerous domains including educational, medical, and occupational settings (Puhl & Brownell, 2003), more research is warranted to better understand how these prejudiced attitudes develop as well as the psychological consequences of stigmatization.

Perhaps most troubling, however, is that such negative attitudes toward the obese and overweight is evident in as young as pre-school children aged 3-5 years (Cramer & Steinwert, 1998).  Despite prejudiced attitudes from other children and resulting peer rejection being one of the most common sources of stigmatization of obese children, few studies have assessed the bullying experiences of overweight youth.  Moreover, the negative messages overweight children and adolescents receive from peers and even family members are compounded by the societal messages about obese individuals portrayed in the media.

Brian Washington Joins Team Domin8 Advisory Panel

Artists are eager to champion causes through their work. The Same can be said of some attorneys, especially those who prize social justice.

Brian Washington, a prolific artist and lawyer, is both.

In 2002, Washington's 11-piece first addition series, formally entitled "The Continual Struggle: The Civil Right Movement - Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow," was acquired in its entirety by the Smithsonian-affiliated National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati.

The $100-million museum opened in 2004 with six interactive galleries that address slavery, the Civil War, the Underground Railroad and contemporary issues in civil and human rights.

For Washington there are many parallels between his art, legal profession and affiliation with USANA Health Sciences.

"They are really three different means to getting to the same end," said Washington, who is currently working on Edition 2, as well as practicing law from the Los Angeles office of Sidley, Austin, Brown and Wood.

"I want to raise awareness of certain issues and fight for what I believe is right. I want to be a voice for those who don't, or can't, raise theirs.

USANA Health Sciences is a vehicle that will empower me to better serve my community, pursue my true passion of art and be a role model for healthy lifestyles that others can follow. I am truly thankful that USANA is in my life."

Former Miami University Baseball Player Joins The Team Domin8 Advisory Panel

"As a father of two I want to live as long as possible to watch my kids grow up, attend college, and be a grandfather one day. In order to do this I feel that it's important that I educate myself and others on the importance of our everyday health " states Paul Frietch.

Their are so many avenues that we can take, but IT IS PROVEN that USANA is the best route to take. I've been waiting for an opportunity like USANA to share my health and well being with others, so that they to can take the necessary steps in living a healthier life.

Being a member of the Miami University Baseball Team I felt that I had an edge over the rest of the non student athlete's. I was taught daily the proper nutrition and exercise habits that it took to become a healthier person.

Being removed from collegiate sports for five years now I know how hard it is to stick to the right nutritional and exercise habits.

Frietch played First Base for The Miami University Redhawks

As a graphic designer it's vitally important that I find time throughout my day to stay healthy, and give my body what it needs nutritionally. Through my experience as a student athlete at Miami University I feel that I can help educate people on the USANA way.

Essentially it all comes down to YOU choosing the type of life you want to live. I choose USANA.

I look forward to becoming an intricate part in Team Domin8 success, and the relationships that come along the way.

Former Ohio State University Soccer Player Joins Team Domin8 Advisory Panel

As one of the newest members to team Domin8 and the USANA family I am extremely excited to share in our numerous visions and goals.

This opportunity is one that I have dreamed of for many years and I am elated to be sharing my passion for health, nutrition, exercise, and overall wellbeing with others.

I am eager to finally utilize the lessons and skills that I learned while obtaining my Bachelor of Science in Nutrition at the Ohio State University.

As a former member of the Ohio State University Women’s Soccer team the correlation between proper nutrition and our athletic performance was discussed daily. But, as I have made the transition into the real world I have realized it plays an even more valuable role in everyday life.

I am enthusiastic to share this information with people from all walks of life and USANA is the perfect vehicle through which I can do this.

Kate Linehan (#22) played forward at The Ohio State University.

Currently, I am in graduate school to become a Physician Assistant and my classes indicate that nutrition is assuming an essential role in healthcare as we evolve our system toward preventive care.

Nutrition is the future of healthcare and I am tremendously excited for what the future of team Domin8 and USANA holds.

The USANA Difference (MENTORS like Jerry Cervantes)

A key benefit to becoming affiliated with USANA is the team environment that exists within the company. As an individual that has participated in organized sports all his life, successfully led corporate training and managed executive teams, I can truly speak to the value as well as importance of TEAMWORK!

I was initially introduced to USANA by The Cervantes Family. Jerry Cervantes is now a personal USANA mentor and friend of mind. In addition he sits on the Team Domin8 Advisory Panel and oversees all endevours that Team Domin8 considers participating in.

Mr. Jerry Cervantes has led a storied life. He was diagnosed with Large B-Cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma Cancer (NHL) in October 2004. This disease is a cancer of the lymphatic system, which is part of the immune system, whose primary function is to ward off disease and infection. Non-Hodgkins lymphoma causes cells in the lymphatic system to abnormally reproduce, eventually leading to tumor growth. In addition, these cancerous cells can also spread to other organs. About 40 -50% of people with this type of lymphoma can be cured with therapy.

Before USANA
(Jerry with Doctor Joshua Bletzinger, October 2004)

Needless to say, the success rate is not great and when Mr. Cervantes was diagnosed he was classified as having Stage IV Aggressive NHL disease (the worst of all levels). His doctor could do nothing more for him other than recommend immediate high-dose chemotherapy if he was to have a chance at living.

Now, let's take a step backwards. Three months prior to his diagnosis Jerry had already noticed that his health was quickly deteriorating. He could no longer work or coach his young basketball team, but figured it was nothing serious. Concerned friends noticed his condition and prescribed vitamins, something which many of us would most likely disregard. However, Mr. Cervantes was reassured that these vitamins were unique and would help rebuild his health. After a few months, the diagnosis came about and his life had now changed in a matter of seconds. There was no turning back, the damage had been done, but his commitment to the Usana supplements never faltered.

Post Stem Cell Transplant

(Jerry with wife, July 2005)

His chemotherapy sessions began in November 2004 and ended in March 2005. He was advised of all the negative effects that he would face while on therapy, but surprisingly he experienced the utter opposite. Minimal hair loss, no vomiting, increased appetite, and higher levels of energy, were just a few of the positive effects he experienced while taking Usana.

His journey didn't end there. After an arduous experience he now faced a stem cell transplantation in May 2005. This would be one of his most difficult moments and would require him to be hospitalized for a minimum of 25 days. Miraculously, Jerry was able to undergo a stem cell transplantation and be out of the hospital in a record-breaking 17 days! Doctors were stunned with his recovery as the average patient will take a minimum of 25-30 days to recover from such an incident.

Furthermore, Jerry blew away doctors with his ability to reproduce stem cells. It takes the average human 3-5 days to build a minimum amount of 5 million stem cells, required for the transplant. In Jerry's case it took him only 8 hours to collect 6 million, a result which doctors today cannot explain. It was evident that Jerry was not alone in his mission to survive as Usana was with him every step of the way strengthening him and supporting him on his road to recovery. At the end of May Jerry was cleared by doctors as no longer having cancer. It is clear that the stem cell transplantation was successful. Cellular repair through the use of Usana products made a pivotal impact on his recovery. While Usana is not a cure for cancer it definitely played a key role in his recovery into full remission.

After USANA
(Jerry with Doctor Joshua Bletzinger, March 2006)

This testament isn't chance or good fortune, but has been brought about by Usana's proven capability to deliver cellular repair, critical for Jerry and others like him. As a result, we also support the company and its product line in an effort to educate all people to the benefits of supplements and not just any supplement, but Usana Health Sciences, a pharmaceutical grade supplement. We don't push supplements, what we encourage is a lifestyle change. By educating one another we can improve our chances of living longer, healthier, and fuller lives.

Jerry has now been in remission since March 2005 and attributes his full recovery to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through whom all things can be accomplished.

LEAD THE WAY 2015: "The Game of Life"

Welcome all!

My name is AL Washington. I am utilizing this blog, LEADTHEWAY2015, as a vehicle to document my victories, trials & tribulations on the path to achieving life's most important gifts of TRUE health & TRUE wealth.

I chose the title "LEADTHEWAY" because it signifies who I am & what I believe in at heart, a LEADER! I believe that with regard to anything you choose to associate yourself with, if you do so with all your energy, you will be successfull beyond your wildest dreams!

2015 signifies the year that I would like to look back on this initial blog post & evaluate the journey for all the successes as well as opportunities that I have experienced.

As a ten year veteran of the the pharma/biotech industry, I view myself as one of the luck ones... I was lucky enough to have achieved a 6-figure income and a great deal of corporate success by my mid-twenties but smart enough to stay true to myself, my upbringing and what I knew was truly most important in life to ensure that I remained my own captain of "this ship we call life."

Unlike many others, I did not allow myself to be overcome by all the perceived "nicities" that Corporate America would like you to believe define success & happiness. The company car, expense account, hotel points and corporate give-aways are great when you are the point-gaurd controlling the tempo of the game, but what happens 20 years from now when the game has advanced to the 3rd quarter & your company decides to draft the next "Al Washington" when YOU have yet to receive the lion's share of your contract???

This blog is dedicated to any and all people who desire to have the finer things in life WITHOUT having to ultimately sacrifice quality of life in return! I learned two important lessons at an early age; 1) without doing all you can to proactively maintain TRUE health, there is no such thing as "living life to the fullest" & 2) without pursuing TRUE wealth, we are all "pawns" in another person's master plan for life as opposed to being ruler of our own plan!

I welcome you to explore and learn as much information as possible on my blog! If you were invited here by someone other than myself, THANK THAT PERSON because they thought enough of you to assist you in making a difference for the better in your own life. I challenge you to come along for the ride, but beware...This journey IS NOT for the weak at heart!

L-E-A-D-T-H-E-W-A-Y!!!
